Ava Gardner as a femme fatale in the film noir The Killers, 1946. Based on a short story by Ernest Hemingway, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” in 2008. Miss Gardner’s gowns in the film were designed by Vera West.
